The Flower Farm

Clare, Suffolk

We bought the home of Stour Valley Flowers in June 2016. We collected the keys on 1st September and became the proud owners of 3 acres and 1 rather unloved, dilapidated house. “The Nurseries” had previously grown chrysanthemums and been a family home but it had stood empty for some time and the land was left to run wild.

Whilst renovating the property we lived in a static caravan in the garden. The house had no heating, the electrics were unsafe, there wasn’t a kitchen and the bathroom was... Interesting. We remained in the caravan until our second daughter arrived, 3 weeks early!

Once we completed the renovation of the house, (I say we, I did a bit of painting, Drum did the majority of the work himself), our thoughts turned to the land. We had been trying to do a bit along the way but the house was our main focus. Drummonds’ tractor “Dorothy” had to start earning her keep. She is a little grey Ted20 Ferguson. She featured at our wedding and besides his family, she is Drums other love.

The “top field”, is adjacent to the house. It is south facing, gets sunshine all day and is our main growing area. We started off with 12 beds in 2018 and have expanded each year to now encompass a wide selection of shrubs, perennials and annuals.

British Flowers

Stour Valley Flowers believe that educating the public on the origin of their flowers is of upmost importance. Many people unknowingly purchase supermarket flowers with little consideration for their air miles and carbon footprint. Stour Valley Flowers pride themselves on sourcing seed locally. Customers can view the flowers being grown just a few meters from where they are collected.
